LzMSS, coordinated by the Scout Masters, conducted a comprehensive presentation emphasizing the importance of first aid. The event aimed to enhance scouts’ emergency response skills and deepen their understanding of the critical role first aid plays in daily life. The presentation included detailed demonstrations and hands-on activities, covering procedures for handling common injuries such as cuts, burns, and fractures. This practical approach ensured that scouts could apply these life-saving techniques in real-world scenarios. A significant segment of the presentation was dedicated to the importance of the scout scarf.Beyond being a symbol of scouting pride and unity, the scarf was highlighted for its multiple practical uses. Scouts learned how to utilize the scarf as a tourniquet, a sling for injured arms, and a bandage in emergencies, reinforcing its value as an essential part of their uniform. Additionally, every Thursday is observed as Scouts Day at LzMSS. On this day, scouts participate in various activities that promote scouting principles and skills, aiming to instill discipline, teamwork, and community service among the scouts. Scouting plays a vital role in the holistic development of young individuals, serving as a foundation for building character, citizenship, and personal fitness. Scouting fosters leadership skills by providing opportunities for members to take on leadership roles, plan events, and lead their peers, thus developing critical thinking, decision-making, and leadership qualities essential for future success. Promoting community service is another significant aspect of scouting, where scouts engage in projects benefiting society and instilling a sense of responsibility and empathy. Scouting encourages personal development by providing a structured environment for setting personal goals, working towards achieving them, and gaining recognition for accomplishments. Additionally, scouting builds lifelong skills, from survival techniques to first aid, which are invaluable in everyday life. The presentation served as an excellent opportunity to educate scouts on essential first aid skills and the practical uses of the scout scarf. The regular observance of Scouts Day fosters a culture of discipline, teamwork, and community service among scouts, contributing significantly to the development of responsible and capable individuals well-equipped to make positive contributions to society.+3See insights and adsBoost post

On the 26th of February, LzMSS coordinated a health awareness event titled “Ill Effects of Tobacco and Secondhand Smoke,” organized by the health committee. The event, which featured a Poster Competition, served as a platform to raise awareness about the significant health risks associated with tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke. The event demonstrated our collective commitment to addressing the profound health challenges posed by tobacco. Tobacco consumption had been recognized as a leading cause of preventable diseases and premature deaths worldwide. The harmful effects extended beyond smokers to those around them, as secondhand smoke contained over 7,000 chemicals, many of which were toxic and about 70 could cause cancer. In Bhutan, the impact of tobacco use had been particularly concerning. The World Health Organization had reported that tobacco use was a significant risk factor for non-communicable diseases, including heart disease, stroke, and various cancers. Moreover, exposure to secondhand smoke could lead to respiratory infections, ear infections, and asthma attacks in children, and increased the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke in adults who did not smoke. As part of the event, students took pledges to abstain from tobacco use and to advocate for a smoke-free environment. These pledges highlighted their commitment to maintaining their health and encouraging others to do the same. By taking these pledges, students played an active role in promoting awareness and reinforcing the message of the event. The poster competition featured a diverse array of artworks created by talented individuals who had dedicated their time and creativity to illustrating the dangers of tobacco and secondhand smoke. These artworks served as powerful tools in our ongoing efforts to educate and inspire change within our communities. As the event concluded, we were reminded of the significant impact that awareness and education could have in combating the tobacco epidemic. The health committee believed that together, we could foster a healthier, tobacco-free environment for ourselves and future generations.+30
